Hoechundang Kyunghee Ryu Korean Medicine Clinic introduces the publication record of the materia medica volume of Comic Donguibogam, a book in which Dr. Bongha Ryu, Honorary Director, participated. This book presents Korean medicine content from Heo Jun’s Donguibogam in comic form, so that readers new to Korean medicine can more comfortably understand medicinal herbs and basic health knowledge.
Comic Donguibogam was co-authored by Jung Hyung-ki and Bongha Ryu. The materia medica volume covers the characteristics and traditional uses of 91 medicinal herbs. Rather than directly transferring the difficult sentences of classical medical texts, it is characterized by making the properties and application concepts of medicinal herbs that people often wonder about in daily life easier to approach.
In Korean medicine, medicinal herbs are not used by simply dividing them into good and bad. Even the same herb may vary in suitability depending on the body’s condition, digestive strength, differences in heat and cold, current medications, and the stage of a condition. Therefore, when connecting medicinal herb information found in a book to actual use, professional examination and consultation are needed.
Hoechundang Kyunghee Ryu Korean Medicine Clinic considers the work of interpreting long-standing medical classics in today’s language to be an extension of clinical care. We will continue to calmly record the wisdom of Korean medicine so it can be conveyed without exaggeration and in a form that is understandable in daily life.
