Fatigue & Herbal Tonics

Immune Herbal Medicine Should Fit Your Constitution

Many people look for herbal medicine when fatigue lasts a long time or common colds are frequent. A customized prescription is needed after considering your constitution and current health condition.

In the clinic, I often hear people say, “I think my immunity has been low lately.” These concerns arise when sleep does not feel refreshing, common colds become frequent, appetite decreases, or recovery feels slower than before. Many people think of herbal medicine at times like this, but an herbal tonic is not simply a medicine that raises energy; it is a treatment that should be prescribed after looking at the body’s balance.

Signs of Low Immunity Differ from Person to Person

Even with the same fatigue, the causes can differ. The prescribing direction differs for those whose digestion is weak and who do not absorb nutrition well, those whose recovery rhythm has been disrupted by stress and lack of sleep, those whose hands and feet are cold and whose circulation has declined, and those who sweat a lot and tire easily.

That is why I check the duration of fatigue, meal and bowel movement status, sleep, weight changes, medications being taken, and existing diseases together. Through consultation and examination, we must distinguish what is lacking now from what is excessive so that the selection of medicinal herbs can be more precise.

Decoctions, Gyeongokgo, and Gongjindan Also Have Selection Criteria

Herbal medicine can be prepared in various forms, including decoctions, pills, and pastes. Decoctions are useful for adjusting the composition of medicinal herbs to current symptoms and constitution, while Gyeongokgo and Gongjindan have traditionally been used to care for weakness and low energy.

However, even if a prescription is well known, it does not fit everyone in the same way. Those with a heat-prone constitution, sensitive digestion, people managing blood pressure or blood sugar, and those preparing for pregnancy or who are pregnant or breastfeeding should be sure to confirm through care whether it is appropriate to take and at what dosage.

Lifestyle Rhythm Should Be Considered During Use

Taking herbal medicine does not automatically offset lack of sleep and overwork. You need to secure time for the body to recover so the direction of the prescription can continue well. Do not stop any Western medications or health supplements you are taking on your own, and please tell us about all of them during care.

  • Do not skip meals, and create a regular routine with foods that are easy to digest.
  • Keep bedtime and wake-up time consistent.
  • Rather than intense exercise, start steadily with light walking.
  • Reducing heavy drinking and frequent late-night snacks may help prevent slower fatigue recovery.

We Recommend a Consultation in These Cases

  • When common colds or mouth sores recur and recovery takes a long time
  • When fatigue continues for more than 2 weeks even after enough rest
  • When loss of appetite, weight loss, dizziness, or palpitations occur together
  • When you are taking medication for a chronic condition and are also considering an herbal tonic

If you lose weight without a clear reason, or if fever, cold sweats, or severe lethargy continues, we recommend that you receive care first. Herbal medicine for immunity begins with accurately understanding your body. When it is prescribed according to constitution and health condition, and lifestyle management is adjusted together, it can help build a foundation for recovery without overburdening the body.
