Fatigue & Herbal Tonics

How to Manage Concerns About Reduced Immunity

If you often have Common Cold and inflammation, and fatigue lasts a long time, it is important to look at your daily rhythm, hydration, and digestive function together. Herbal medicine is safest when chosen after constitutional consultation.

In the consultation room, I often hear people say, “I think my immunity has gone down.” Immunity is difficult to define with a single number like blood pressure, but the body does send signals. If fatigue remains even after enough rest, or if Common Cold, mouth inflammation, Skin problems, or stomach upset recur, it may be necessary to check your daily rhythm and physical strength together.

Immunity starts with the body’s basic strength

In Korean medicine, we consider it important to build the body’s internal strength so it is not easily affected by external stimuli. As we age or prolonged overwork continues, qi, blood, and body fluids can become insufficient, and Digestion, breathing, and recovery functions may not feel the same as before. At this time, before asking “What more should I eat?” we should first ask, “Am I giving my body time to recover?”

First, align your sleep and activity rhythm

When the rhythm of moving lightly during the day and sleeping deeply at night breaks down, fatigue recovery becomes slower. During sleep, our body continues processes needed for immune cell activity and inflammation regulation. It is best to reduce habits such as looking at screens late into the night or having sleep times that fluctuate greatly every weekend as much as possible.

  • Keep wake-up and bedtime at similar times each day.
  • Start with about 20–30 minutes of walking during the day.
  • Avoid overeating, alcohol, and excessive caffeine before bed.

We also look at dryness and reduced Digestion

If you drink little water and the indoor environment is dry, the throat and nasal mucosa can become sensitive more easily. The basics are drinking lukewarm water in divided amounts and eating slowly and regularly. In Korean medicine, we distinguish between a state of insufficient body fluids, weak gastrointestinal function, and low energy. For Gyeongokgo, Bojungikgi-tang, Sagunja-tang, Gongjindan, and similar formulas, the process of determining whether they fit your current body condition is more important than the name.

We recommend Consultation in these cases

  • Repeated Common Cold or inflammation significantly interferes with daily life.
  • Loss of appetite, weight loss, and low-grade fever continue together with fatigue.
  • Cough and phlegm last a long time, or you feel short of breath.
  • You have an underlying disease or are taking medications such as immunosuppressants or anticoagulants. Do not stop medication on your own; decisions should be made after Consultation.

Immune care does not end with one special method. Sleep, meals, hydration, movement, and stress management form the foundation, and when needed, Korean medicine treatment suited to your constitution and symptoms can be added. If repeated fatigue and minor illnesses continue, we recommend that you not take the body’s signals lightly, and instead check them calmly.
