Fatigue & Herbal Tonics

What to Know Before Taking an Herbal Tonic During Seasonal Changes

During the fall seasonal transition, sweating, sleep, and Digestion may become unsettled, and Fatigue can last longer. Herbal tonics should be chosen according to constitution and symptoms to be used safely.

In the treatment room, I often hear this in the fall: “After getting through summer, I feel drained, and even after sleeping, I don’t feel refreshed.” When the temperature difference between morning and evening grows and daylight decreases, the body’s rhythm can easily become unsettled. At these times, people often think of herbal tonics, but the same prescription is not right for everyone, so you should first calmly observe the signals your body is sending.

Why Fatigue lasts longer during seasonal changes

If you sweated a lot during summer and ate irregularly because of the heat, a decline in stamina may feel more noticeable in the fall. The temperature difference between day and night places a burden on the Respiratory System and Digestive System, and if sleep quality decreases, recovery also slows. Changes such as low mood or reduced motivation may also appear, so Lifestyle Management and medical care may both be needed.

What do herbal tonics supplement?

In Korean medicine, an herbal tonic is not simply a medicine that raises energy; it is a prescription that looks at the balance and circulation of qi and blood that have become deficient. Even with the same Fatigue, the approach differs if someone sweats a lot and tires easily, has bloating and reduced appetite, or has sensitivity and insomnia together. That is why we decide the prescription direction after checking age, constitution, digestive strength, current medications, and existing conditions.

What to consider with Gongjindan

Musk Gongjindan is a prescription prepared in pill form by combining musk, deer antler, Cornus fruit, Angelica root, and other ingredients. Many people ask about it when they feel they have used a lot of energy or their recovery has declined, but whether to take it and how much to take can vary depending on whether the body has a lot of heat, whether Digestion is good, and whether the person is taking medications related to blood pressure or cardiovascular disease. In particular, with musk, confirming the ingredient source and managing the proper dosage are important, so it is better not to choose it on your own without an examination by the Medical Team.

When Consultation is recommended

  • When Fatigue continues for more than one month after heavy sweating following summer
  • When reduced appetite, bloating, diarrhea, or constipation occur together
  • When sleep becomes light, sensitivity increases, and work concentration decreases
  • When signs of a Common Cold recur or throat and nose symptoms last a long time
  • When you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medication for a chronic condition

If you have urgent symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, decreased consciousness, or paralysis of one arm or leg, calling 119 or going to the emergency room should come before an herbal tonic Consultation. If you take existing medications such as blood pressure medication, diabetes medication, or anticoagulants, do not stop them on your own, and please inform us of your current medication list during your visit.

A daily rhythm as important as herbal tonics

  • Take a light walk in the morning while getting sunlight
  • Reduce cold drinks and late-night snacks, and maintain warm meals
  • Keep a consistent bedtime
  • After sweating, replenish fluids and rest

An herbal tonic during seasonal changes is not a way to push a tired body harder, but a process of creating conditions for recovery together. When I recommend an herbal tonic, I look at lifestyle rhythm and Digestion before the prescription itself. Finding the direction that fits your body can provide steadier support as you move through fall and prepare for winter.
