Fatigue & Herbal Tonics

Summer Low Energy And How To Take Gongjindan

If fatigue lasts long after the heat, lifestyle rhythm and digestive status should be reviewed together. It is best to decide how to take Gongjindan after constitution-based care.

In the clinic, I often hear patients say that even after summer has passed, their body feels heavy and their appetite has not returned. In hot and humid weather, loss through sweating increases, and digestion can easily become unsettled due to cold foods and irregular meals. If this state continues, it can go beyond simple tiredness and reduce overall daily resilience, with issues such as poor concentration, weight loss, and repeated common colds.

For Summer Fatigue, We Also Look At Digestion And Fluid Metabolism

In Korean medicine, low energy does not mean we always use only tonifying medicines. People who feel bloated and have frequent diarrhea, those who sweat a lot and feel very thirsty, and those who cannot sleep and have become sensitive all need different directions. Therefore, when considering herbal tonics, we look not only at current stamina but also appetite, bowel movements, sleep, sweating, and usual constitution.

Restore Your Daily Rhythm First

Basic management is simple but important. If you often have cold drinks and raw foods, the stomach can become cold and the burden on digestion may increase, so we recommend prioritizing warm meals and adequate protein intake. For exercise, it is better to continue steadily at a level that makes you sweat lightly rather than pushing too hard.

  • Do not skip breakfast; eat at regular times
  • Hydrate with lukewarm water rather than habitually drinking iced beverages
  • Reduce late-night snacks and alcohol to protect sleep quality
  • Support circulation with light walking or stretching

What Kind Of Herbal Tonic Is Gongjindan?

Gongjindan is a traditional prescription based on musk, deer antler, cornus fruit, and angelica root. Because it is often taken in pill form rather than boiled and drunk like a decoction, busy people may consider it. However, even with the same fatigue, if the cause is different, the prescription choice and dosage may differ, so it is better not to approach it as “the same medicine for everyone because I am tired.”

In particular, musk is a specialized herbal medicine ingredient handled under the care and prescription of a Korean medicine doctor. If there is a possibility of pregnancy or you are breastfeeding, if you are taking medication for a chronic disease, or if heat sensations, palpitations, or insomnia are prominent, you must let us know during your visit. Do not stop medications you are taking on your own; they need to be reviewed together.

When Consultation Is Recommended

  • When fatigue continues for more than 2 weeks even after enough rest
  • When decreased appetite and weight loss occur together
  • When digestive symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal bloating, or heartburn repeat
  • When sweating is excessive or dizziness or palpitations occur often
  • When you want to take an herbal tonic but have an underlying disease or are taking medication

If sudden chest pain, difficulty breathing, decreased consciousness, or paralysis of one arm or leg occurs, calling 119 or going to the emergency room comes before an herbal tonic consultation. Other long-lasting fatigue may be a signal from the body. In care, I consider it important to distinguish between the areas where energy should be replenished and the burdens that need to be eased first, and to decide the direction of lifestyle management and prescription together.
