Chronic Skin Conditions

Early Signs Of Psoriasis And Chronic Management

Psoriasis is an inflammatory Skin condition with recurring scale and red rashes. It is important to distinguish early and chronic patterns, reduce skin irritation, and manage it consistently.

When I meet people in the clinic who have had Psoriasis for a long time, I often hear that at first they thought it was simple scaling or eczema. Psoriasis may look like a problem on the skin surface, but it is a Chronic Skin Condition involving inflammatory responses, immune balance, and the skin renewal cycle. Even if it seems mild at first, if it recurs or spreads, we recommend having the condition checked.

Where Does Psoriasis Commonly Occur?

Psoriasis commonly appears in areas that frequently receive pressure and friction, such as the elbows and knees. Red rashes and silvery-white, scale-like flakes may also occur on the buttocks, scalp, arms, and legs. Even when itching is not severe, if the scale becomes thick or red lesions with relatively clear borders continue, it should be distinguished from simple dryness.

Early And Chronic Stages Require Different Management

In the early stage, lesions are small and discomfort is mild, so they are easy to overlook. However, if left alone while scaling thickens and spreads to several areas, the management period may become longer. For long-standing Psoriasis, it is necessary to look not only at skin symptoms but also at factors that can disturb inflammation, such as sleep, fatigue, Digestion, drinking habits, and stress.

What To Check When It Spreads Suddenly

Psoriasis may persist for a long time without major change, but after an infection such as a Common Cold or after a change in medication, small drop-shaped lesions may suddenly increase over the whole body. When this kind of change occurs, it is safer to receive care to check the current stage and Skin condition rather than repeatedly applying ointment on your own or irritating the Skin with folk remedies. If you are using medications such as steroids, do not stop or increase them on your own; discuss adjustments with the prescribing Medical Team.

In Korean Medicine, We Also Look At The Body's Balance

In Korean medicine care, even with the same Psoriasis, we distinguish whether dryness is prominent, whether heat and redness are strong, and whether long-standing scale and poor circulation are seen together. Depending on the constitution and symptoms, herbal medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion treatment, Cupping and bloodletting therapy, pharmacopuncture therapy, and topical preparations may be selected to help support skin regeneration and inflammation control. The goal is not only to suppress the current scale, but to strengthen the body's conditions for recovery so recurrences may be reduced.

Consultation Is Recommended In These Cases

  • When thick scale and red lesions last more than 2 weeks
  • When it spreads to several areas such as the scalp, elbows, knees, or buttocks
  • When small spots suddenly increase across the body after a Common Cold
  • When the Skin repeatedly worsens after drinking, overwork, or stress
  • When symptoms seem to return quickly after stopping ointment

In daily life, the basics are to reduce alcohol intake and avoid irritation such as scratching lesions or scrubbing the skin. Moisturize consistently, but avoid products that sting or feel hot, and create an environment where inflammation can settle through enough sleep and regular meals. Rather than rushing to define Psoriasis, it is easier to find a path toward more stable Skin when you manage it consistently while looking at the current stage and body condition together.
